Just The Job For Katie
When Katie left school she wasn’t entirely sure what career path to take.
Having spent some time working in a primary school, in the retail sector and with a photography company, Katie was open to trying different things to work out what career was right for her.
She signed up with Routes to Work and was allocated a caseworker who gave her support getting her ready for work, supporting her with CVs and helping her develop interview skills. She was keen to get an apprenticeship and the job at BCF came up, a company that specialises in veterinary imaging equipment.
Katie was not fazed about going forward for the job as a warehouse apprentice which has mostly been taken up by males in the past. She wanted to learn on the job and researched the company before her interview.
“I had never been for a proper interview before but I was prepared really well by Routes to Work. I liked the sound of the company – I thought the fact that they produced veterinary equipment sounded really interesting. I am loving my job at BCF and have already worked in different sections of the business.”
“They are such a fantastic company to work for. I was initially a little worried that because my job was in warehousing it would be all guys and I wouldn’t fit in, but it isn’t like that at all. There’s a great balance of males and females and everyone has been so welcoming and helpful.”
I would never have found this opportunity had it not been for Routes to Work, I really appreciate all the help they have given me, particularly the in-work. It’s good to know there are people there making sure you are okay and don’t have any issues.
